warm

In winter, when the fog settles over the meadows, over the lake and also a little over our minds, how good it is to feel warmth. Tea and soups, candles and blankets are being brought out, the summer wardrobe is stored away far in the back of the wardrobe. It's time for warm, cosy, protective things. With the WARM collection, we want to give you the opportunity to sew your own warm winter wardrobe.

Cotton is a fibre that most people associate with airy T-shirts. But with the right weaving technique and a brushed surface, it can also be made into very warm fabrics. Our two moleskin fabrics in camel and black offer you a lot of warmth, completely vegan.

Absolute fluffiness is guaranteed with our teddy fabric. Our small collection is then complemented by two fabrics made from the classic winter fibre wool. The wool from sheep is woven into a black and white herringbone fabric and is wonderfully warm. As the icing on the cake, we stock a luxurious fabric made of alpaca wool in a wonderful dark teal.

Warm, that's also what this thought makes us feel: all the fabrics in this collection are deadstock fabrics from German fair fashion companies. We sourced these special treasures from JAN`N JUNE and hessnatur. Have fun sewing warmly!

Even if you have a lot of sewing experience - sewing a coat can be a big challenge. This herringbone fabric in virgin wool is made for it. But here, too, we searched a long time for the right sewing pattern. Classic with lapel collar, A-line or straight cut, patch pockets or piped pockets. There are so many possibilities.

The Cocoon Coat by Wardrobe by Me, a Danish pattern label, in the end convinced us. It has some special details like the long shawl collar and a slight cocoon silhouette. The raglan sleeves, which as a pattern piece go directly into the back yoke, create a nice play with the herringbone pattern.

Yes, it takes time to sew a whole coat with lining finish. But it's not as hard as you might think. I dare you! And honestly, this thick herringbone fabric is very forgiving. Even if a seam or even the welt pocket isn't quite as perfect as you'd like, you can straighten out a lot of things with a steam iron.

A classic coat in a beautiful camel tone fits wonderfully into a minimalist wardrobe. It is so versatile! When we first touched this great moleskin fabric from JAN'N JUNE, we immediately knew what we would make out of it: a simple coat that could be sewn quickly, preferably with raglan sleeves and without a closure. But the search for a pattern was not easy. In the end we found one at BurdaStyle. The coat 11/2014 #102 fulfils all the criteria. Sewing this coat was indeed quite fast. For now, it's not even lined, the seam allowances are simply cut with pinking shears. Since the fabric looks very elegant on the back, with a slight sheen, this works well. The moleskin is tightly woven and although it is cotton, the roughened surface keeps it nice and warm. The final coat is quite oversized as planned, we just chose one size bigger for it. The wide collar is quite dramatic, but honestly also pretty cool.

Vest collars, i.e. a turtleneck with a chest piece, usually open at the sides (is there an official word for this?) are everywhere at the moment. They come in knitted, quilted or sewn form; everything is represented. For this long pile cotton teddy plush, it was the perfect project. We did not use a pattern. The collar was simply estimated from a favourite fleece jumper and then the width of the front and back was just by feel.

The idea was to copy the open character of these vests, but to have the possibility to secure the front and back parts with ties at the sides. The back is a bit longer than the front. Most Vest collars that can be found end at mid chest height and are worn only as a scarf. Because the teddy fabric reaches to the hips, the piece can now be worn well without a jacket too. To finish the edges, we decided to use homemade bias tape. A somewhat laborious process, but also fun. The finished vest keeps you wonderfully warm and is therefore the perfect underlayer for coats with open collars, but also works well as an additional layer over dresses, blouses and the like.

Here we have paired the vest with a dress made from our checked linen from our "winter linen" collection.

Looking for a luxurious but quick gift? Our teal coloured alpaca and virgin wool fabric is beautiful and perfect for a warming winter scarf. The process couldn't be easier. Simply cut the fabric from selvedge to selvedge in a 25 cm wide strip. Then remove a few weft threads along the cut edges to create a little fringe. This takes a bit of effort with the slightly felted fabric, but nothing will become undone afterwards. Et voilà, this is how you turn half a metre of fabric into two elegant scarves.
