match

It's a match! Linen goes with summer. Skirts and airy trousers go with light blouses. The sun shines on our skin. And because it all goes together so well, we simply take the same fabric for the top and bottom, combine big buttons and even bigger pockets with it and feel really good - because it simply matches.

Our anthracite linen is simple. The fine stripes blend into a beautiful melange at a distance. Plain fabrics are great for plain garments. Or you can make them shine with coloured yarns and big buttons. Miri combined shiny apricot yarn and shimmering pearl buttons with the dark linen in her outfit - and the whole fabric shines with it. Choosing the thread colour and buttons was not so easy: everything goes with this fabric, actually!

The button bands on the skirt and top are an effective detail and yet easy to sew. It's also just super practical. At the beach you always have your own changing room with you. The patterns are self-designed. The skirt can easily be altered from a well-fitting basic pattern. Cut the pattern at the darts all the way to the hem. Turn the darts closed - this automatically creates width at the hem. Lengthen the skirt to above the knee, finished. The pockets are stitched on. The straps of the top are fastened with buttons. For more hold, some elastic has been used in the back of the top.

Marleen had several firsts for her outfit for the "match" collection: it was the first time for her to work with linen, to use her own construction and to sew something for Stoffkollektiv.

She used the lighter side of the sand-coloured linen and combined dark buttons for contrast. She constructed the trouser pattern herself based on a favourite pair of trousers. To do this, she used a basic pattern she constructed herself on her own measurements. The trousers are comfortable and easy to combine.

How great that the very first prototype of the pattern worked without any major problems. She only sewed a strip into the side seams to have more freedom of movement - and thus created a nice detail on the otherwise simple trousers.

The pattern of the top is "Liza" from the second issue of Tauko magazine . It is a casual pattern with a prominent button band at the back, Marleen simply swapped this to the front. The top was very nice to sew, she only made small changes like a rounded V-neck at the front and did without the turn-ups of the sleeves.

Marleen is happy with her result: "The sand-coloured twill is a great material that is easy to cut and sew. It feels very precious, is not transparent and the colour is ideal to combine with other colours or the dark side of the fabric."

When planning this match collection, Edina immediately knew that she wanted to try the Gilbert Top von Helen's Closet , the ideal partner for a matching linen set. As always, the instructions were impeccable and the shirt came together easily. It’s such a fun style with a camp-style collar and a nice relaxed fit. To accommodate the growing bump and allow for more room all around, Edina chose to make a size 14, which sits quite oversized but works well. She used the darker side of the sand linen twill and chose large white mother-of-pearl buttons for a visual contrast.

When heavily pregnant, there are not that many options for fun bottoms, so a simple skirt was the obvious choice. To not waste any fabric, and to be able to potentially use the fabric for something else after the pregnancy, Edina chose to use the full width of the fabric and just add one seam in the back, cinching in the waist with a drawstring made from the reverse side of the fabric. This gives the bump some easter egg vibes (fittingly the pictures were taken around easter) but allows for maximum adjustability.

Together, these two pieces make a lovely breezy summer outfit. They work really well together but we are excited to style them with other pieces of our wardrobe too.
