june

Modern urbanity. Waist pleat meets polo shirt collar. Strong complementary colours.

Rich in contrast are the fabrics of our "june" collection. We combine electric blue with rusty orange and add a pinch of light mint. Black and a soft light grey act as neutrals in the background. The fabric qualities support this interplay: flowing Tencel, next to tightly woven gabardine, and lots of texture with ottoman weave piqué and a jacquard knit from hemp and wool.

june - that’s not only the release month of our fabric collection. June is also the second part of the name of a fair fashion brand (JAN ‘N JUNE) whose deadstock fabrics form the majority of this collection. Passing on fabrics that are no longer used in textile production to home sewists - for us, that is sustainable per se. But if we can offer fabrics from fair fashion companies that are much more transparent about their supply chain and mostly use certified fabrics, we are even happier. Have a look at the product details, where we can now give you more information about the origin of the “june” fabrics. There you will also discover that one of our fabrics was knitted directly in Germany on the Swabian Alb. Will you find out which one it is? And now: Enjoy our urban "june". We hope we can inspire you with it and are so excited to see what you sew with the fabrics.

We knew immediately that with this collection we wanted to explore some smarter sewing patterns. A pair of high-waisted with pleats at the front had been on Edina’s wish list for ages, so this grey fabric from JAN ‘N JUNE came at the perfect time. This mid-weight fabric is perfect for shirts and dresses but also works well for light trousers. It was the perfect fit for these trousers, as it was super easy to work with (which helped with all the details) and is airy to wear. The pattern is from Trendschnitt, the No60 - Trousers with back elastic (in German only). It has slanted pockets in the front and two welt pockets in the back (Edina sewed only one of them for an asymmetrical look). With the elastic in the back waistband, the trousers are not only easy to fit, but also very comfortable. The wide and slightly short leg makes these trousers a modern classic, perfect for the office but also for leisure. Edina definitely had a lot of fun sewing the trousers and loves wearing them.

Polo shirts have been following us around since our first collection. We couldn't get the mix of sporty and chic out of our minds, and this piqué in electric blue was just what we needed. Miri designed the pattern herself and it is also the basis for the mint-coloured polo dress. Edina altered the cut a little and sewed the placket without buttons, and also added a wide cuff to the sleeve. The heavy Tencel piqué was a little challenging to work with in areas with many layers, but it is the perfect pairing for the pattern. Together with the grey trousers, it's a casual outfit for the office, with dad vibes and a touch of Best Buy employee :D

Miri loves cleverly designed patterns and unusual details. She discovered the Viola Knit Top by chance on Instagram. Comfortable jersey becomes an elegant top thanks to the great pattern design and the pleat draping. Our rusty orange Tencel is the perfect match. Admittedly: when you look at the pattern piece of the front part, you just can't believe that it's going to become a garment. But as you sew, one pleat joins the other and it's becomes a wonderful top. This transformation is a little bit like magic. In short, the pattern by the New Zealand-based pattern designer Jo from Forget-me-not Patterns is great. You can tell that she knows a thing or two about pattern construction, everything has been well thought out. There is even a video tutorial for all those who, despite the good instructions, just don't know how to create the pleats. Now we don't want to do too much (unsolicited and unpaid) advertising for it, but among many mediocre patterns this one stands out for us. It's certainly not the last time Miri has sewn this shirt. She is planning to make one with shorter sleeves, in our powder blue jersey or even the yellow silk. Miri and Viola - a friendship has begun. :-)

A pair of trousers made from a basic skirt? That's the culottes. If you have a well-fitting skirt pattern it’s really simple to turn it into a pair of trousers, perhaps you add pleats at the waistband and voilà, the culottes are ready. Miri has been dreaming of making a pair for a long time, and now the opportunity and the right fabric came along to finally make this idea come to life. We don't always want to gush so much in our fabric descriptions, but it's like this: this wool hemp jacquard knit has become an absolute favourite. Thanks to its great drape the very wide leg swings with every step, gives a feeling of freedom and still looks chic. These are combinations we like, and they run through this collection: Comfortable fabrics and patterns, but with classic details like pleats and collars. You can read more about our enthusiasm for the fabric HERE . Yes, we think it's great.

We had originally planned to release this  cotton ottoman fabric with our workwear collection, but then decided that it was a touch too elegant. Now we have sewn it into a short double-breasted jacket. We love it in combination with our rusty orange Tencel and the mint-coloured French Terry. Although this ottoman in dark navy has a slight sheen and looks elegant due to the special weave, it is still stiff and robust. This stiffness is perfect for this short jacket as it accentuates the lantern sleeves. The lapel collar also sits well and does not need any further support from interfacing or the like. Miri drafted the pattern for the jacket herself. She found a very similar one second-hand years ago and wore it so much that it almost fell apart. That's why the need for a new edition.

Those who know us in person know that this dress has been worn a lot. Shortly after this mint French Terry arrived, Miri sewed it up. Again she self-drafted the pattern which is also the base for the blue pique polo shirt. In this dress in mint, the button placket is a little longer and is closed with golden press studs. This gives you the option of wearing the collar completely closed or leaving it open for a more casual look on warmer days. The belt is sewn from the same fabric and also has press studs. At the waist, the dress has two small openings in the side seams so that the belt can be threaded through, sitting inside the dress at the back. This way, you achieve waist shaping in the front, while the dress can fall freely in the back. The dress has become an absolute feel-good piece, the fabric is very soft and falls beautifully due to its volume. Although the fabric is quite thick, it regulates the temperature very well and is also very comfortable to wear on warmer days.
